Whatever your reasons for joining Achilles New Zealand, we’re looking forward to meeting you
We believe that with support, nurturing, and training, anyone can participate and succeed in mainstream running events. Whether you're looking to improve physical strength, build confidence, help others achieve their dreams, or simply because you love to run, walk, push or wheel - we welcome you.
Volunteer Guides are vital to the Achilles athlete community to provide companionship and safety. Good conversation is their greatest aid to training. Some runners or walkers may use a wheelchair or prostheses or they may be blind, but through the assistance and training provided to them by volunteers of Achilles New Zealand, they are able to run in races.
While the general role is to accompany athletes with an impairment, during the course of a workout or race, on any given day an Achilles volunteer will function as a member’s eyes, ears, guide, and motivator. Our needs include not only running/walking guides, but chapter leads, fundraisers, administrators and much more.
To register as a volunteer please complete our online application form.
We welcome new volunteers at anytime.
We encourage young people with disabilities to participate in physical activities in whatever way they can. Our focus is on enjoyment, building self-esteem, and having fun while being active.
Young people throughout New Zealand are able to join one of our chapters and participate in our training sessions and in any event that our other Achilles athletes will be attending throughout the year. There is also a discounted membership fee of $25/year for young people Under 18 years from 01 September 2024.
Please contact your local chapter lead to find out how to get involved. Young people can be guides too.
